Floating Runner: Quest for the 7 Crystals is an early PlayStation 3D platformer. The camera sits behind your character as you run into the screen through polygonal stages, jumping between platforms, avoiding hazards and dealing with enemies along the way. As the subtitle suggests, the goal involves recovering crystals, with levels built around reaching an exit while collecting what you find on the route. Because depth is judged from a chase view, much of the challenge comes from lining up jumps across gaps and onto narrow surfaces. Stages vary their scenery and layouts as you progress, mixing straightforward running sections with more awkward platform arrangements. The game uses the standard PlayStation controller and belongs to the wave of early titles working out how platforming translates into three dimensions on the hardware.
