G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is an action shooter tied to the live-action film. You take control of members of the Joe team and work through mission stages against Cobra soldiers and vehicles, shooting, dodging and using each character's gear. Two players can join in together, with the second player taking a partner Joe alongside the first, and characters can be swapped as you unlock more of the roster. Levels move through a series of locations drawn from the movie's storyline, mixing corridors and open areas with waves of enemies and boss encounters. The presentation leans on the film's designs for the characters and equipment. Combat is straightforward, built around constant movement, cover and combined firepower rather than complex controls.
