Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is a match-three puzzle game built on a role-playing framework. You create a character, pick a class, and travel a world map, accepting story quests and optional battles along the way. Each fight takes place on a shared grid of coloured gems where you and your opponent alternate turns. Matching gems generates mana in the corresponding colour to cast spells, while other matches deal damage or award experience and gold, so blocking your opponent's colours is part of the strategy. Victories bring levels, stat points, new spells and equipment. Side systems handled through puzzle minigames let you capture and train monsters, craft items and develop a citadel, and the PSP version supports head-to-head play.
