Ray Crisis is a vertically scrolling shooter from Taito, part of the same lineage as RayForce and RayStorm, brought to the PlayStation. Your ship carries a standard forward-firing shot for enemies on your own plane plus a lock-on laser system that targets multiple enemies positioned below you in the background, then unleashes simultaneous hits when you release the lock. Chaining large groups of locked targets is central to scoring well. The action takes place inside a computer network, with abstract, geometric environments and layered backgrounds, and the route you take through the game is influenced by how you play rather than being a single fixed sequence of stages. Boss encounters cap the stages with multi-part attack patterns. Score attack play, ship options and a soundtrack in the series' electronic style round out the package.
