Sentinel Returns is a puzzle-strategy game built around a single unusual idea: you occupy a body on a landscape of tiles and must absorb energy from the terrain to survive and advance. Objects placed on the ground can be absorbed for energy, and you can create boulders to stack, build a new body at a higher vantage point and transfer your consciousness into it. Standing on high ground gives you the view you need to progress, but the Sentinel and its watchers scan the landscape and drain your energy if they can see you, so movement means managing line of sight constantly. Each level ends when you climb high enough to absorb the Sentinel itself. The presentation is dark and stark, with a soundtrack by John Carpenter.
