You play as Sly Cooper, a raccoon from a long line of master thieves, working to recover the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus, the family book of thieving techniques scattered by a gang of criminals. Levels mix platforming with stealth: you sneak past guards, creep along ledges and pipes, pickpocket, and use Sly's cane to strike enemies and hook onto hooks and rails. Bottles hidden in each stage unlock a safe containing a new move. Sly's partners Bentley the turtle and Murray the hippo handle planning and muscle, and Inspector Carmelita Fox pursues you throughout. Between the main stages, the game breaks up the platforming with vehicle and chase sequences, and boss encounters close out each region. The cel-shaded art style and comic-book presentation carry the story between missions on the PlayStation 2.
