Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha is the PlayStation version of the EX series' arcade debut, a fighting game that renders its characters as 3D models while keeping combat on a 2D plane. Classic Street Fighter inputs carry over, with the roster combining Capcom fighters and characters created for the EX games. Matches use a super combo gauge that supports multiple levels, along with guard breaks, cancels and chain-style combo strings. The home release adds fighters and modes not present in the original arcade version, including extra single-player content such as training and trial-style challenges alongside arcade and two-player versus play. Backgrounds and camera work shift with the action while the fighting itself stays on the traditional side-on plane.
