Tekken 4 rebuilds the series' arenas as enclosed environments with walls, slopes, steps and uneven ground, so positioning matters more than in earlier entries and opponents can be pinned against a surface for extra damage. The four-button limb-based controls carry over, with throws, reversals and sidestepping intact. The plot picks up the Mishima family conflict, and newcomers including Steve Fox and Craig Marduk join returning fighters. Each character has an arcade path with story cutscenes and an ending. Modes include arcade, versus, team battle, time attack, survival and practice, plus a Tekken Force-style side-scrolling mode where you fight through stages of enemies. Fighter customization appears in the form of alternate outfits and items unlocked with money earned in play.
