Tenchu 2 is a third-person stealth action game set in feudal Japan. You take missions as a ninja, moving through castles, villages and forests at night while avoiding guards whose awareness is shown by an on-screen ki meter. Staying unseen lets you perform instant stealth kills, while being spotted forces you into direct sword combat, which is far riskier. A grappling hook lets you reach rooftops and upper floors, and items such as caltrops, smoke bombs and poison rice can be bought between missions using points earned for stealthy play. Multiple playable ninja have their own campaigns and story paths. The game also includes a mission editor that lets you build your own stage layouts and place enemies and objectives within them.
