Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven continues the stealth action series on PlayStation 2. You play as a ninja infiltrating feudal Japanese castles, towns and temples, using shadows, rooftops and crawlspaces to avoid detection. A ki meter shows how aware nearby enemies are of your presence, and reaching an unsuspecting guard triggers a stealth kill animation. A grappling hook opens up vertical routes, and items such as smoke bombs, caltrops and shuriken are bought or found and carried into missions. Direct sword fighting is available but leaves you exposed, and your end-of-mission ranking rewards remaining unseen. Multiple playable characters have their own mission sets and story branches, and the game includes a versus mode where two players face off as ninja in enclosed arenas.
