Tetris Worlds is a puzzle game that surrounds the standard falling-block rules with a set of alternate modes. Besides conventional Tetris, you can play variants where blocks must be arranged into squares, where cleared rows cause the remaining blocks to fall and chain into further clears, where pieces adhere by color, and where scoring depends on clearing marked lines. The pieces themselves behave consistently across modes, so most of the challenge comes from adapting your stacking habits to each rule change. The PlayStation 2 version presents the modes within a science-fiction framework of different planets and supports multiplayer for head-to-head play on one console. Presentation is built around animated backdrops and an electronic soundtrack, with progress tracked by meeting line and level targets in each mode.
