Swings send balls out at unrealistic heights and distances, fielders make stylized diving and wall-climbing catches, and pitchers can pour on heat well past what a simulation would allow. Turbo and power meters build through good play and can be spent to boost a pitch, swing, or throw at a key moment. Batting and pitching controls are simplified so games move quickly. Along with exhibition matches, the PlayStation 2 release includes a career mode centered on a created player working through the majors, plus additional challenge modes built around home runs and skill events.
