The Dog Island is an adventure game for the PlayStation 2 in which you play as a dog. After choosing your breed and name, you travel to an island said to hold a cure for a sick family member, exploring towns, forests, beaches and other outdoor areas along the way. Your dog's sense of smell is central to play: you follow scent trails to track down items, people and objectives, and gather flowers and other materials used to make remedies. Talking to the island's animal residents leads to errands and side tasks, and running, digging and swimming help you reach new areas. Presentation is bright and gentle, with a storybook tone and simple controls aimed at a broad age range. Progress is measured through story chapters and the friends and abilities you pick up.
