Black Monday continues The Getaway's crime story in a recreated central London, again mixing on-foot third-person shooting with driving through city streets. The plot is split across multiple playable characters on opposite sides of the law, cutting between their perspectives as the events unfold. Combat covers gunfights, cover use and melee, while driving sections send you through traffic on real-world road layouts. The series' pared-back presentation returns, with damage and direction conveyed through the world and your character rather than on-screen meters and maps. Cutscenes use motion-captured actors and a British crime-film tone, with heavy language and violent content in keeping with the first game. Locations range across the city, including tunnels and interiors, and the mission structure alternates between vehicle sequences and set-piece shootouts.
