Based on The Scorpion King, this action-adventure game casts you as the warrior Mathayus in a third-person, melee-driven quest through deserts, temples and fortified enemy camps. You fight soldiers and beasts with swords and other weapons, chaining attacks together and using blocks and dodges to survive larger groups. Exploration between battles involves simple platforming and navigation, punctuated by boss fights against the story's larger threats. Additional weapons and moves become available over the course of the game, giving you more options in combat. The PlayStation 2 version renders the ancient setting in 3D, with cutscenes carrying the plot from one mission to the next. The overall structure is linear and level-based rather than open, with progression tied to clearing each area.
