Time Commando is an action game for the PlayStation in which a computer virus drags the player through a series of historical settings. Each stage is themed around a different era, and you fight your way forward using weapons appropriate to the period, from clubs and swords to firearms and futuristic gear. Characters are rendered as 3D models over pre-rendered backgrounds, with fixed camera angles framing the action as you move through corridors, arenas and outdoor areas. Combat is close-quarters and timing-based, with blocking and positioning mattering as much as attacking, and weapons wear out or run dry so you regularly scavenge replacements. Between eras the game uses cinematic sequences to link the story. Progress is linear, moving from one time period to the next.
