Time Crisis is a light gun shooter on the PlayStation, converted from the arcade original. The defining mechanic is the pedal-driven cover system: you duck behind cover to reload and avoid fire, then pop out to shoot. On PlayStation this is mapped to a button, and the game supports the GunCon light gun as well as standard controller play. Progress is governed by a countdown timer that is extended each time you clear an area, so aggressive, accurate shooting is rewarded. Enemies telegraph their attacks with on-screen indicators, and boss encounters close out each stage. The home version adds extra content beyond the arcade mode, giving additional missions and areas to play through. Play is on rails, with the game moving you from position to position automatically.
