Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 on PlayStation 1 is a version built for the original hardware, keeping the series' focus on stringing ollies, grinds, manuals and air tricks into scoring combos. You skate through 3D environments hunting for gaps, rails and transitions while working through goal lists in each level, unlocking new stages as you complete them. Objectives include reaching score targets, collecting letters and items, and performing specific tricks in set locations. A roster of licensed professional skaters is available alongside a create-a-skater option, with stats that improve as you progress. Two-player competitive modes such as trick attack and graffiti are included. Compared with the versions released on later consoles, the PS1 game runs on simpler visuals and a more compact structure suited to the machine.
