Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 for PlayStation 2 is a trick-scoring skateboarding game where you link ollies, grinds, manuals, lip tricks and reverts into extended combos. Its career mode places you in each level in free skate from the start, and you find characters and skaters positioned around the map to accept individual goals rather than working against a two-minute timer. Tasks include score challenges, collect-the-letters runs, timed races and pro-specific missions. You can skate as Tony Hawk or other licensed professionals, or create a skater and build up stats, tricks and equipment. Create-a-park tools let you construct your own layouts, and split-screen multiplayer modes are included for two players. Levels are large, interconnected environments with lines, gaps and secret areas to uncover across repeated runs.
