Tony Hawk's American Wasteland on PlayStation 2 sets its skateboarding in Los Angeles, with a story mode following a skater who arrives in the city and gets pulled into building a skate park. The world is designed to connect its districts so you can move between areas while continuing to skate, and you can step off the board to walk and climb to reach new spots. Alongside standard grinds, manuals and aerial tricks, the game includes BMX riding in some sections. Trick combos still drive scoring, with objectives and missions handed out by characters you meet. A classic mode presents shorter, goal-list style runs separate from the story. Create-a-skater and park-building tools are included, along with multiplayer modes for competitive sessions on a single console.
