Tony Hawk's Project 8 for PlayStation 2 is a skateboarding game built around a ranking system: you begin low in the standings and climb by completing challenges scattered through the game's connected town. Objectives are triggered by skating up to characters and spots around the map, and each goal typically has multiple tiers of difficulty, so stronger runs earn better results. Combos are still built from grinds, manuals, flip tricks and airs, with scoring rewarding long, varied lines. You can create your own skater and outfit them, and licensed professional skaters appear throughout. The PlayStation 2 release is its own version of the game rather than a direct match for the newer console editions. Multiplayer modes are included for playing against another person locally.
