Triple Play 99 continues EA Sports' baseball series on the PlayStation. You control Major League clubs through exhibition games, full seasons, playoff series and home run hitting contests. At the plate, batting depends on swing timing and directional input; on the mound, you select a pitch type and place it inside or outside the strike zone before delivering. Fielding switches to whichever player is closest to the ball, with throws to each base assigned to the face buttons, and baserunners can be sent or held individually. Season mode tracks statistics and standings across the schedule, and rosters, lineups and rotations can be edited. Commentary, crowd noise and stadium effects fill out the broadcast-style presentation, and two players can play head-to-head on a single console.
