Twisted Metal: Black is a vehicular combat game for the PlayStation 2. The story frames its drivers as inmates of an asylum, and each character's tale is told through dark, stylized cutscenes between battles. You choose a vehicle and fight in arenas until every rival is destroyed, using machine guns, homing missiles, mines, napalm and each car's unique special attack. Vehicles vary in armor, speed and weight, and the environments include destructible buildings, tunnels and hazards that can be turned against opponents. Some missions set specific objectives rather than a straight last-one-standing fight. The presentation leans heavily on shadow, fire and a bleak tone, and split-screen multiplayer is included for local battles.
