UFC Sudden Impact is a mixed martial arts fighting game for the PlayStation 2 based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Bouts take place in the octagon and combine stand-up striking with clinch work and ground grappling, so you punch, kick and knee at range, then shoot for takedowns and work through positions on the mat toward submissions. Submission and reversal attempts are handled through timed button and stick inputs, meaning a fight can swing quickly if you lose position. You can fight as UFC competitors across weight classes or build a fighter of your own, developing attributes and technique as you take on opponents. Matches can end by knockout, submission or decision, and two players can fight head to head on one console.
