UFC Throwdown is a mixed martial arts fighting game for the PlayStation 2 based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Fights take place in the octagon and combine stand-up striking with clinch grappling and ground fighting, so you can trade strikes at range, tie your opponent up, or take the fight to the mat and work through positions toward a submission. Fatigue and damage matter, and a bout can end by knockout, submission or the judges' scorecards. The game features UFC fighters across weight classes and lets you create your own competitor, with training and progression to improve attributes and add techniques. Two players can fight head to head on one console. Controls emphasise timing and positioning rather than long combo strings.
