Vandal Hearts II is a tactical role-playing game played on grid-based battlefields. Its distinguishing feature is a simultaneous turn system: you and the enemy issue orders at the same time, and both sides' moves resolve together, so you must anticipate where opponents will go rather than simply reacting to them. Units can also team up, with allies standing nearby joining in on attacks. Characters develop along class paths, and weapon and equipment choices influence which abilities they learn. The story follows a group of friends drawn into political conflict and civil war, told through extensive dialogue scenes between battles, and certain choices affect how relationships and events unfold. Between missions you manage your roster, equipment and skills before heading into the next engagement.
