Vietcong: Purple Haze is a first-person shooter set during the Vietnam War, adapted for consoles from the PC Vietcong series. You serve with a small squad operating out of a base camp, taking on missions through jungle, tunnels, and villages. Rather than open firefights at long range, much of the combat involves spotting concealed enemies in dense foliage and dealing with ambushes and booby traps. Squadmates fill specific roles, including a point man who can guide you through the terrain and a medic who patches you up, and you can issue basic orders to them in the field. The game includes tunnel sequences played with limited visibility and a pistol or flashlight. Multiplayer modes are also included.
