Vigilante 8 2nd Offense is the PlayStation entry in the vehicular combat series. You choose a driver and vehicle, each with a unique special weapon, and fight in arenas built around ramps, jumps, destructible structures and respawning weapon and armor pickups. The standard arsenal covers machine guns, missiles, mines and heavier explosives. The story expands past the original game's 1970s setting into other time periods, and a quest mode gives each character a run of objective-based missions with cutscenes between them. Additional modes cover straight arcade battles, and two players can fight in split-screen. The moment to moment play is about circling the map, controlling pickup spawns and leading your shots against fast-moving targets while keeping your own vehicle intact.
