War of the Monsters is a 3D arena brawler in which giant monsters fight each other in destructible cities. You choose from a roster of creatures inspired by mid-century monster movies, including huge apes, reptilian beasts, robots and mutants, then battle across arenas full of buildings, vehicles and scenery. Almost everything can be smashed, and debris such as girders, signs and cars can be picked up and thrown or used as melee weapons. Climbing skyscrapers, grappling with opponents and using each monster's special attacks all factor into fights, while the environment collapses around you as the match goes on. Modes include a single-player campaign against escalating opponents, plus versus play and side games. Presentation leans on black-and-white creature feature styling, with tiny fleeing crowds and military units in the streets below.
