WCW Backstage Assault is a wrestling game based on World Championship Wrestling that does away with the ring. All matches are fought in backstage locations such as parking lots, loading docks and arena hallways, with crates, tools and other loose objects available as weapons and environmental hazards to use against opponents. Because there is no ring, victory comes from wearing down specific body parts rather than scoring pinfalls, which changes how you approach each fight. The roster features WCW wrestlers from the era, and a create-a-wrestler mode lets you assemble a custom competitor with your own choice of look and moveset. Single matches can be played alone or against a second player, and a longer career-style progression links bouts together as you move through the promotion.
