Wild Arms is a turn-based role-playing game for the PlayStation set on the dying world of Filgaia, which mixes fantasy elements with a western frontier atmosphere. You control three protagonists: Rudy, a silent young man who can use ancient firearms known as ARMs; Jack, a swordsman travelling with a small companion; and Cecilia, a princess trained in magic. Their separate opening chapters converge into a single party. Towns, dungeons and the overworld are presented in 2D sprite art, while battles switch to 3D scenes with a menu-driven command system. Each character carries tools used outside combat, such as bombs, a grappling hook and other items, which are needed to solve dungeon puzzles and reach new areas. Equipment, magic and character abilities are upgraded as the story progresses.
