World Cup 98 is EA Sports' football game for the PlayStation, built around the FIFA World Cup held in France. You pick a national team and play through qualification and the tournament proper, or drop into a single exhibition match or penalty shootout. Play uses a broadcast-style angled camera, with passing, through balls, shooting and sliding tackles mapped to the face buttons, plus set pieces for corners, free kicks and penalties. Commentary and crowd audio run over the action, and stadium and weather settings can be adjusted before kick-off. Team lineups and formations can be changed from the menus, and substitutions are made during stoppages. Two players can compete on the same console, either against each other or cooperatively against the computer.
