Worms 3D is the PlayStation 2 version of the series' move from 2D battlefields into three dimensions. Teams of worms take alternating turns walking, jumping and aiming across 3D terrain, with a camera you swing around to line up shots and judge elevation. The weapon set carries over staples such as the bazooka, grenades, shotgun and airstrikes, plus tools including the ninja rope and jetpack for crossing gaps and climbing. Wind affects lobbed projectiles, and explosions permanently deform the landscape, opening craters and collapsing cover. Single-player content includes a mission-based campaign and training exercises that teach the 3D aiming, while multiplayer has players passing the controller between turns. Teams can be named and given voice sets, and the humour and cartoon presentation of the series remain intact.
