Worms Forts Under Siege moves the series into 3D and adds base building to the turn-based formula. Instead of only shooting at each other, your team of worms constructs fortifications on the battlefield, expanding from a stronghold by placing keeps, towers and other structures that extend your territory and unlock stronger weaponry. Buildings take on architectural themes drawn from different historical civilisations. Turns are timed, and you spend them moving worms, erecting or upgrading structures and firing on enemy fortifications, with the goal of destroying the opposing stronghold. The 3D camera lets you look around the map to line up shots over walls and across terrain. There is a single-player campaign of scenarios as well as skirmish matches and multiplayer against other players.
