X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is an action role-playing game for the PlayStation 2 and a follow-up to the first X-Men Legends. The premise pairs the X-Men with Magneto's Brotherhood against a common enemy, so the playable roster includes both heroes and former antagonists. You take a team of four into each level, switching between them at will, chaining melee attacks and spending energy on mutant powers. Experience points feed into level ups and skill points, and equipment can be assigned to individual characters to alter their stats. Hub areas between missions let you change your line-up, shop, review objectives and enter training rooms. Cutscenes and voiced dialogue carry the story. Multiple players can play together on one screen, each taking control of a member of the active team.
