X-Men: Mutant Academy is a one-on-one fighting game for the original PlayStation. Fighters are rendered as 3D models battling on enclosed stages, with matches decided over rounds by draining the opponent's health bar. Each character has punches, kicks, throws and special moves based on their mutant powers, along with more powerful attacks that draw on a meter. The roster is made up of X-Men and their adversaries, including Wolverine, Cyclops and Storm. Modes cover an arcade-style run of matches against the CPU, two-player versus play, survival and practice, with items and extras unlocked by playing through the game. Presentation includes character endings and unlockable costumes. Matches are short and focused on learning each fighter's move list rather than long combo strings.
