X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a third-person action game tied to the Wolverine film. You play as Logan, fighting through linear stages using claw combos, grabs and finishing attacks against soldiers, mutants and other enemies. Wolverine's healing factor stands in for a conventional health system, regenerating damage when you avoid attacks for a moment, so combat encourages pressing forward and clearing rooms rather than hiding. Between fights there is platforming, climbing and the occasional boss encounter drawn from the story, with cutscenes filling in the plot. Defeating enemies earns experience that goes into upgrades, letting you strengthen Wolverine's attacks and abilities as you progress. The presentation follows the film's version of the character and its setting, and the PlayStation 2 version is built separately from the releases on more powerful hardware.
