Xenogears is a role-playing game for the PlayStation that combines a lengthy science-fiction story with turn-based combat. You follow Fei Fong Wong, a young man in a remote village whose life is upended by an attack, drawing him into a conflict involving warring nations, religion, and questions about human origins. On foot, battles use a deathblow system where light, medium and heavy attacks are chained together with a limited pool of action points to trigger special combos. Much of the game also involves Gears, large piloted mechs with their own fuel management and attack chains, used both in battle and in parts of the world map. Exploration includes 2D-style platforming and jumping through rotatable 3D environments, and the story is delivered across two discs with animated cutscenes and voiced sequences.
