Xenosaga is a science-fiction role-playing game for the PlayStation 2. You follow Shion Uzuki, an engineer working on the combat android KOS-MOS, as a journey through space draws the cast into conflict involving an alien threat, corporate interests and mysterious artefacts. The story is told with a heavy emphasis on cinematics, with long voiced cutscenes between playable sections. Combat is turn-based and grid-influenced, using light and heavy attacks aimed at different parts of an enemy, combo setups, boost meters to seize turns, and Ether abilities in place of conventional magic. Characters can also fight inside A.G.W.S. mechs in some encounters. Between battles you explore ships, stations and planetside locations, upgrade skills and equipment, and take on optional content away from the main plot.
