In Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, Adol Christin is shipwrecked and washes ashore in the Canaan Islands, a region cut off from the outside world and inhabited by the Rehda. Combat returns to an overhead-style action format, with Adol attacking in real time, jumping, and using magic drawn from special swords he acquires during the adventure. Those swords can be strengthened with items found in the field, and each carries its own magic attack governed by a gauge. You travel between the islands' villages, forests, ruins and caves, taking on story quests and fighting large bosses that require learning attack patterns. Voiced story scenes and an arranged soundtrack accompany the campaign on this PlayStation 2 version.
