This PSP release of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim follows Adol Christin after a shipwreck strands him in the Canaan Islands, home to the Rehda people and to ruins tied to the region's past. Gameplay is real-time action RPG combat viewed from an overhead angle: you attack, jump and dodge directly, gaining experience and levels from the enemies you defeat. Adol collects special swords that can be reinforced with materials found in the field, each granting a magic attack that draws on a gauge. Exploration takes you through villages, forests, caverns and towers, with boss fights that hinge on reading attack patterns and staying mobile. The handheld version adapts the game for portable play with its own presentation adjustments.
