Capsule Monster Coliseum takes the Yu-Gi-Oh license away from the trading card game and into turn-based tactical battles on a grid. You build a team of capsule monsters, place them on a board divided into terrain types, and move them square by square to engage opposing monsters. Terrain affects your creatures, so positioning matters as much as raw power, and monsters can grow stronger as they win fights. Between battles you spend earned currency to acquire new monsters and expand your roster. Familiar characters from the series appear as opponents, each with their own team, and the game is played from a 3D perspective with animated attacks when two monsters clash. Modes include a single-player campaign against a series of duelists and head-to-head play against a second player on the same console.
