Yu Yu Hakusho: Dark Tournament adapts the anime's martial arts tournament arc into a 3D fighting game for PlayStation 2. You choose from characters drawn from the series, including Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei along with their opponents, and battle in arenas where you can move freely rather than along a single plane. Attacks combine standard strikes with the spirit energy techniques associated with each fighter, and energy meters govern when the stronger moves can be used. Beyond one-off versus matches, the game includes a story-driven mode that follows the tournament's progression through a series of fights, along with unlockable content earned by playing. Voice work and character designs follow the anime's presentation.
