Doom 3 on the original Xbox is a console version of id Software's first-person shooter set in a Union Aerospace Corporation research facility on Mars. You play a newly arrived marine caught in the aftermath of a failed experiment that opens the base to demonic forces, working through labs, corridors and eventually hell itself. The game leans on darkness and confined spaces: a flashlight lets you see in unlit areas, and audio logs and PDAs found on bodies fill in story details and provide codes for locked storage. Weapons include the pistol, shotgun, machine gun, chaingun, plasma rifle, rocket launcher, chainsaw and BFG. The Xbox release includes a cooperative campaign mode for two players over system link or split screen, along with competitive multiplayer.
