Machine Hunter is an action shooter for the PlayStation played from an overhead viewpoint. You move through enemy-held environments on foot, firing at robotic opponents while dodging their return fire. The central mechanic lets you take control of downed machines: after destroying certain robots you can occupy the wreck and use its weapons and movement abilities for as long as it holds together, which changes your firepower, durability and speed from moment to moment. Levels are built around clearing rooms and corridors of hostile machines, finding routes forward and reaching objectives, with the type of enemy you commandeer often shaping how you handle a given area. Control is direct and combat-focused, with ammunition and health pickups scattered through the stages.
