Monster Hunter Freedom is the PSP entry in Capcom's hunting action series. You take on quests from a village hub, travel to zoned environments and track large monsters, learning their movement and attack patterns before committing to slow, deliberate attacks of your own. Weapons include heavy blades, hammers, lances and ranged options, each with its own timing, reach and stamina cost, and there is no auto-lock safety net. Successful hunts yield carved parts and gathered materials, which you spend on forging and upgrading weapons and armour, and stronger gear is what lets you attempt tougher quests. Between hunts you farm, gather items, cook meat and prepare supplies. Ad hoc multiplayer supports co-operative hunting with other PSP owners locally, and gathering quests and item management fill out the loop around the fights.
