Myst is a first-person adventure built on pre-rendered still images. You arrive on a deserted island with no instructions and no inventory of the usual kind, and you make progress by examining machinery, reading journals and working out how the island's devices fit together. Solving the island's puzzles opens linking books that take you to other worlds, each with its own environment, mechanisms and logic to unravel. The story concerns Atrus and his two sons, Sirrus and Achenar, whose conflicting accounts you piece together from books and recordings scattered across the ages. Movement is node-to-node, with the controller moving a cursor to interact with hotspots. There are no enemies and no time pressure — the game is entirely about observation, note-taking and deduction. An ending depends on the conclusions you reach.
