NASCAR Thunder 2004 is the original PlayStation version of EA Sports' stock car racing series, using licensed NASCAR drivers, teams and tracks. You can run single races or commit to a season and career, with practice, qualifying and pit stops forming each race weekend. Race length, damage, assists and AI difficulty are adjustable, so events can be short sprints or longer races where fuel load, tyre wear and pit timing shape the finish. Setup options let you change gearing, suspension and aero balance before going out. Drafting and reading traffic are central to the oval racing, and contact leaves damage that affects handling. Being a PlayStation release late in the console's life, it runs at lower visual detail than the same year's newer-hardware versions. Two-player split-screen racing is included.
