NHL FaceOff 98 is a hockey game for the original PlayStation and part of Sony's FaceOff series. It uses NHL team and player licensing, so you skate out with real clubs and lineups in full five-on-five play. Exhibition matches, a season leading to the playoffs, and practice-style options make up the bulk of the modes. On the ice you pass, dump the puck in, check opponents into the boards, and take shots from the point or in tight, with penalties and power plays in effect. Settings for period length, difficulty, and rules let you shorten games or make the AI tougher. Roster and line adjustments are handled from menus between matches, and two players can play against each other on one console.
