Ninja Gaiden on Xbox is a 3D action game in which you play Ryu Hayabusa, a ninja seeking a stolen sword and the people behind an attack on his village. Combat is the focus: you chain sword strikes, charge attacks, block, and use the Izuna Drop and other techniques against enemies who dodge, counter and attack in groups. Ryu also carries secondary weapons, bows and projectiles, and ninpo magic that clears space around him. Between fights you climb walls, run along them, and swim or leap through gaps while exploring interconnected areas that open up as you find keys and items. Shops let you buy healing items and upgrade weapons using currency found in the world. The game is known for demanding, fast-paced fighting and boss encounters that require pattern recognition.
